Anja Blieninger (born June 15, 1981 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German ski racer . She specialized in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom .

biography

Blieninger stood on skis for the first time at the age of two and a half. Trained by her father, she drove to her first victory in a dwarf race at the age of five. In December 1996 she contested her first FIS race . A cruciate ligament tear with meniscus damage, which she suffered at the beginning of the 1997/98 season, interrupted her career. Blieninger competed in her first European Cup race as a 17-year-old in January 1999 and made her debut in the World Cup in February 2001 at the slalom in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At first it had no resounding success. In the 2002/03 season a cruciate ligament tore again and Blieninger did not return to the competition until November 2003.

Blieninger experienced a first high point of her career in the 2004/05 European Cup . Between mid-January and early March 2005, she placed in the top ten in seven races and celebrated her first and only European Cup victory in the Lenggries slalom . At the end of the season she was fourth in the overall standings and third in the slalom classification. In December 2004 she moved up to the DSV World Cup squad and got her first World Cup points with 21st place in the giant slalom in Semmering . In January 2006 she achieved her best World Cup results in the successive races in Zagreb - Sljeme and Maribor with 14th and 12th place. With these achievements, she qualified for the Olympic Winter Games in Turin , but a week before the start of the Games, she suffered a broken right wrist, a ligament injury on her back and a bruised skull while retracting in Ofterschwang , which is why she was out for the rest of the season .

The next serious injury followed in October 2007 when Blieninger broke his left shin while training on the Hintertux Glacier . At the beginning of the 2008/09 season she returned to the competition, but in January 2009 Blieninger suffered another cruciate ligament rupture. In the 2009/10 season she had no injuries and won two World Cup points with two 21st places in the slaloms of Aspen and Maribor. In the following winter of 2010/11, another serious injury meant the end of Blieninger's career. She suffered her fourth cruciate ligament tear and further knee injuries in the European Cup Slalom in Gressoney on December 10, 2010 , after which she had to end her career for health reasons.
