Anjali Devi ( Telugu : అంజలీదేవి ; born August 24, 1927 in Peddapuram ; † January 13, 2014 in Chennai , Tamil Nadu ) was a South Indian actress and film producer . She starred in Telugu film , Tamil film, and Hindi film .

Life

Born as Anjani Kumari in Peddapuram in the East Godavari district , the actress made her stage debut at the age of 10 under her future husband, the composer Adi Narayana Rao . He taught her music and dance. With the stage ensemble “Young Men's Happy Club” she appeared in the pieces Srinivasa Kalyanam and Premavijayam as well as in dance shows.

She made her film debut in 1947 in C. Pullaiah's Telugu film Gollabhama in the role of a vamp . The director gave her the name Anjali Devi, under which she appeared from then on. She also used the image of the seductress in other early films of her career, including G. Balaramaiahs Balaraju (1948), Keelugurram (1949), R. Padmanabhans Raksharekha (1949) and TR Sundaram's Sarvadhikari (1951). She was often in front of the camera under the direction of V. Raghavaiah , for example in the successful films Swapna Sundari (1950), Anarkali (1955) and Suvarna Sundari (1957). She was one of the leading actresses in Telugu and Tamil films, especially in the 1950s, and appeared alongside the male stars of both film industries A. Nageswara Rao , NT Rama Rao , MG Ramachandran and Gemini Ganesan . Other important films in her career were TR Raghunath's Kanavane Kan Kanda Daivam (1955), P. Neelakantan's Chakravarthi Thirumagal (1957) and Lavakusa (1963) by C. Pullaiah and his son C. Srinivasa Rao .

Together with her husband Adi Narayana Rao, Anjali Devi founded the film production company Anjali Pictures in 1951, the first production of which was LV Prasad's version film Poongothai / Pardesi (1953).
