particularities |
artificially designed |
The plant lake is an artificially created lake in Tübingen .
location
The two-hectare body of water, with a capacity of around 50 million liters, is located in the park on the plant lake south of the Neckar , which is bordered to the north by Uhlandstrasse and to the south by Europastrasse. The plant lake is fed on its western side by the Mühlbach coming from Derendingen and is connected to the Neckar in the east by a drain.
The park surrounding the lake is mainly used by walkers and includes an adventure playground . The three oldest grammar schools in Tübingen are located directly adjacent to the park: the Uhland grammar school and the Kepler grammar school on Uhlandstrasse and the Wildermuth grammar school on Derendinger Allee.
history
The plant lake was created between 1906 and 1908 in order to enrich the park immediately northwest of the main train station and to prevent it from being built on.
Dannecker's group of nymphs
Since 1926 a copy of the water and meadow nymph by the sculptor Johann Heinrich Dannecker has been in the lake near the northern bank .
vegetation
The plant lake is stocked with brood by the Tübingen fishing association. The problem is the poor water quality , which is mainly due to the very large population of water birds ( swans , ducks ) that are fed with bread by the park visitors. The waste load is also high. The plant lake is therefore not suitable as a bathing lake .
winter
In cold winters , the ice surface of the frozen plant lake is popular with ice skaters and walkers, although entry is officially prohibited as life-threatening.
Winters of the lake
In some winters, the water from the plant lake is drained. For this purpose, the water level is first lowered to a very low value, then the fish are fished by the district fishing club and released in other waters. The remaining water is then drained off.
The reason for draining the water is that this gives the soil the opportunity to come into contact with oxygen, disintegrates and the sludge layer is thereby considerably reduced.
park
Because of its location not directly adjacent to residential areas, among other things, the park at the plant lake is often used for festivals, concerts and other events. The WM-Park , a public viewing event, is particularly well-known , at which the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cup games were broadcast on large screens. Also in 2018 the games of the German team were shown here.
