Hanna Wolodymyriwna Bessonova ( Ukrainian Ганна Володимирівна Безсонова ; Russian Анна Владимировна Бессонова Anna Bessonova Vladimirovna * 29. July 1984 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian Einzelgymnastin .

Career

Her father Volodymyr Bessonow is a former football player from Dynamo Kiev , he was 79 times national player of the Soviet Union and works as a football coach; her mother, Viktoria (née Serikh) was two-time world champion of rhythmic gymnastics with the group. Anna started rhythmic gymnastics when she was 5 years old. Her mother wanted Anna to be a ballet dancer, but Anna really wanted to be a gymnast.

She trains with Irina and Albina Deriugina at the Deriugina School in Kiev. At a young age she had great success, first with the group and then in the individual area. Her first individual placement at an international championship was fourth place with the ribbon at the European Championships in 2000. At the 2001 World Championships in Madrid, she won the bronze medal in the individual all-around event, plus silver with the hoop and the ball, and bronze with the rope. At the European Championships in 2002 she also received the bronze medal in the all-around competition, plus silver with the rope and bronze with the clubs. At the end of 2002 Bessonowa won three machines at the World Cup in Stuttgart and took second place with the ball.

In 2003 she won three gold medals with ribbon, clubs and hoops at the European Championships in Riesa, at the 2003 World Championships in Budapest she won with hoops and clubs and received silver in the all-around competition, with the team and with ball and ribbon. In 2004 she was second in the all-around at the European Championships in her hometown of Kiev. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she was third with a total of 106,700 points (tape 26,725, club 26,950, ball 26,525, tire 26,500) behind the two Russians Alina Kabajewa and Irina Tschaschtschina .

In the next few years, Hanna Bessonova received medals in all-around and individual disciplines at European and World Championships, but it wasn't until 2007 that she won another title: at the 2007 World Championships in Patras she won the all-around. A year later at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she received the bronze medal again with a total of 71.875 points; while the Russian winner Yevgenia Kanajewa was over three and a half points ahead, Bessonova was only 0.05 points behind the Belarusian Ina Schukawa . A year later, she also took third place in the all-around at the World Championships in Mie.
