Anna Bohn

Anna Bohn (* 1968 ) is a German philologist and film scholar . Since 2019 she has been a research assistant for strategic film development at the Central and State Library Berlin (ZLB).

Life

Bohn studied Hispanic Studies, Slavic Philology and Literary Studies in Madrid, Moscow and Munich and received his doctorate in 2000 with a thesis on the art theory of the Soviet film director Sergei Michailowitsch Eisenstein.

After working as a research assistant at the University of Munich, as a curator of the International Documentary Film Festival in Munich, as a freelancer for the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and as a lecturer in literary and cultural studies at the Institute for Slavonic Studies at the Paris Lodron University in Salzburg, she moved to the Film Institute in 2003 as a research assistant University of Art in Berlin. There she coordinated the project “DVD as a medium of critical film editions ” (directed by Enno Patalas ), which was funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation , from which the digital edition of the DVD study version of Metropolis and the digital reconstruction of the needle-tone version of the Battleship Potemkin (1930) emerged. At the Deutsche Kinemathek Foundation , she also coordinated the “Bronenosec Potemkin / Battleship Potemkin” project, funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, for the reconstruction of the Russian premiere version and the German distribution version from 1926, which was shown at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival .

From 2006 to 2010, Bohn was the head of the DFG- funded project “Basics of a Theory of Film Restoration and Critical Film Editing from an Interdisciplinary Comparative Perspective” at the Berlin University of the Arts and from 2011 to 2014 lecturer for “Film Edition” in the interdisciplinary master’s course in Editing Studies at the FU Berlin . Her monograph “Monument Film. Vol. 1: The film as cultural heritage; Vol. 2: Kulturlexikon Filmerbe ”offers the first comprehensive overview of the problem of the transmission, conservation and reconstruction of the film heritage in German.

From 2012 to 2014 Bohn was a research assistant at the Friedrich Meinecke Institute of the Free University of Berlin ( Oliver Janz chair ) for the EU project CENDARI (Collaborative European Digital Archival Infrastructure). Since moving to the Central and State Library in Berlin , Bohn's academic work has concentrated on problems relating to the information science indexing, indexing and communication of audiovisual documents in digital formats on physical carriers and on the Internet.

From 2014 to 2019 she headed the film library of the Central and State Library Berlin (ZLB).

Awards

Anna Bohn: Monument Film, Volume I: The film as cultural heritage. Volume II: Cultural lexicon film heritage. Cologne, Weimar, Vienna: Böhlau 2013 was awarded the Willy Haas Prize 2013 as part of the Cinefest - International Festival of German Film Heritage, November 2013, as well as the film book of the year 2013 by Hans Helmut Prinzler, January 2014.
