Anna Louise DeForge (born April 14, 1976 in Iron Mountain , Michigan , United States ) is a former basketball player. She ended her career with the Detroit Shock in 2009 , where she started her professional career in the WNBA 2000 . In between, she had played for various other clubs in the WNBA and for Wisła Can-Pack Krakow , with whom she won the Polish championship three times.

Career

college

Anna DeForge played for the University of Nebraska women's basketball team until 1998 . She is the first University of Nebraska player to make the leap to the WNBA.

American Basketball League

After college, DeForge first played in the American Basketball League for the San Jose Lasers. However, the league was dissolved again in the same year.

Women's National Basketball Association

De Forge was never selected by any team in a WNBA draft. The 2000 season was her first season in the WNBA. That season she played for the Detroit Shock . That season she averaged 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game for the Shock. She was also in the Shock starting lineup ten times. After that season, DeForge left the WNBA, but returned in 2003 and played for the Phoenix Mercury until 2005. In the 2003 season she had the best points average of all Mercury players with 11.9 points per game. At the end of the season she was almost voted WNBA Most Improved Player , getting the third most votes of all players in the league. In the 2004 season she was always in the starting lineup of the Mercury. This season, she was able to improve her points average to 14.4 points per game, so she had the second best points average of all Mercury players. Furthermore, she got the most playing time in the entire league with 1,152 minutes. With 70 converted throws from the 3-point area, no player in the WNBA has so many throws from this area. Because of these good performances she was elected to the WNBA All-Star Team that competed against the US women's national team. In the 2005 season she was back every time in the starting lineup of the Mercury. This season, with 13.1 points per game, she again had the second best point average of all Mercury players.

On February 3, 2006, she was transferred to the Indiana Fever for Kelly Miller . In the 2006 season, like in Phoenix, she was always in the starting line-up of Fever. This season she came to a points average of 10.2 points per game. In Indiana she made it to the playoffs for the first time with a team. However, the Fever had to admit defeat to the Detroit Shock in the Conference Semifinals . In the 2007 season , she not only led the Fever into the playoffs, she was also selected in the starting line-up of the Eastern Conference All-Star Team. In the playoffs she had to admit defeat to the Detroit shock with the Fever, but this time only in the Conference Finals.

On February 19, 2008, de Forbe signed with the Minnesota Lynx .
