Anna Fabri (mentioned in a document in 1496 ) was the first female printer in Sweden . She was also a publisher .

family

Anna was probably the sister of the printer Bartholomäus Ghotan († before September 1496), who made cradle prints in the entire Baltic Sea area and after Johann Snell (1483) became Sweden's second non-church printer in 1486.

Anna married the printer Johann Fabri (Latinized from Swedish Smedh or German Schmied ), who took over Snell's office in 1487 . As a widow, she took over the Smedhs printing workshop in Stockholm in 1496 and ran it for at least a year. Her son Bartholomäus Fabri was head of the royal printing works in Stockholm from 1527 to 1530.

The second printer in Sweden was Catharina Höök 200 years later, who was forced to redeem her deceased husband's mortgage .
