academic career

Anna Gisela Johnen studied botany and zoology at the University of Cologne from 1944 . In 1953 she did her doctorate at the chair of Professor Otto Kuhn on experimental investigations into the induction power of abnormal inductors in various forms and the importance of ribonucleic acid for the induction process .

On July 29, 1964, she completed her habilitation with the work Heteroplastic Explant Combinations in Ambystoma and Triturus for the Analysis of the Primary Steps in Neural Induction , supplemented by the work Experimental Investigations on the Importance of the Time Factor in the Process of Neural Induction , at the University of Cologne.

In 1970 she was appointed professor of zoology at the University of Cologne , where she worked until her retirement in 1990.

She bequeathed most of her fortune to the Cologne high school and foundation fund . The Prof. Dr. Anna Gisela Johnen is the largest of the individual foundations recently established under the umbrella of the Cologne Gymnasium and Foundation Fund.
