Anna Krüger (born May 31, 1904 in Vandsburg , † 1991 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German literary scholar and didactic specialist in literature.

Life

From 1910 she attended elementary and middle school in West Prussia, and from 1919 to 1925 the educational institutions in Droyanzig near Zeitz . She taught for three years as a private tutor, then she studied German, history, English, philosophy and folklore at the Humboldt University in Berlin until 1934 and passed the state examination for teaching. From 1935 to 1939 she worked as an assistant at the Academy of Sciences on the Grimm dictionary . Her dissertation in German philology was published in 1938. Nevertheless, she was initially denied a university career, which is why she returned to school in 1939. From 1943 she taught at the teacher training institute in Hirschberg . A few weeks before fleeing from Hirschberg, she was appointed a student councilor. In 1946 she was employed as a lecturer in German literature and its methodology in Weilburg, Hesse, at the Pedagogical Institute , where she was appointed professor in 1955. In 1963 it was transferred to the University of Giessen .

She dealt primarily with youth literature and established literary aesthetic criteria for an educational canon , e.g. B. Erich Kästner's Emil and the detectives for the 5th grade or Kurt Held's Die Rote Zora and her gang for the 8th grade. She was looking for the "good" literature that can also be considered a work of art. Other authors, such as Malte Dahrendorf , rejected the canon idea, while others wanted adult, rather than youth, literature in the classroom (Rolf Geißler 1964).

She donated her fortune to her own foundation, which awards the Anna Krüger Prize through the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin for generally understandable specialist literature.
