The Anna Meares Velodrome is a hall with a cycle track in Chandler , Australia , a suburb of Brisbane .

The Velodrome is the first closed cycle track in Queensland . It has a 250 meter long track certified by the UCI World Cycling Association with a curve elevation of 40 percent. A total of 60 kilometers of wooden slats were laid.

The track was built for use for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Sleeman Sports ComplexÄ . A striking feature of the building is the saddle-shaped roof that rests on a steel structure, similar to the roof of the Lee Valley Velodrome in London for the 2012 Olympic Games . The roof spans an area of 10,000 square meters, rests on the walls and is covered with a membrane cladding made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTSE), which lets in natural light. The combination of steel and membrane creates a continuous mosaic pattern on the floor of the building. Other sports can be practiced in the interior. The complex also includes a BMX track.

Cox Architecture won a design competition for the Velodrome in November 2013.

The cycling track is named after the two-time Olympic champion Anna Meares , the most successful track cyclist in Australia, who retired from active sport after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Meares drove the first three laps on the track at the opening, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk. The track cycling competitions of the Commonwealth Games took place on the track in April 2018. The structure was completed a year earlier than planned.
