Anna Witaljewna Bogomasowa ( Russian Анна Витальевна Богомазова ; born April 7, 1990 in Voronezh , Soviet Union ) is a Russian kickboxer , martial arts fighter and professional wrestler . She worked for WWE's farm team NXT Wrestling under her ring name Anya .

Life

Bogomasova was born in Voronezh in 1990. Her father Vitaly Bogomasow was a boxer and began to get her excited about sports at a young age. At the age of five she started with calisthenics , which she did until she was twelve . From 2003 to 2004 she played tennis. At 14 she started kickboxing and fought in the youth field. On the side she also practiced Taekwondo , where she achieved the black belt . From 2004 to 2007 she taught at the Voronezh Cooperative Institute and graduated with a bar exam. She then studied communication science at the Voronezh State University to become a translator .

In 2004 Bogomasova began her career in kickboxing, she was trained by Alexei Dedow. She was second at the Kickboxing World Championships in 2006 and 2008. She was first at the Russian Championships and the 2011 WAKO Kickboxing World Cup .

In 2010 Anna Vitalievna Bogomasova moved to the United States. In August 2012, Bogomasova signed a development contract with World Wrestling Entertainment . This made her the first native Russian to ever be employed by the WWE. She worked for the NXT Wrestling (NXT) farm team and was slated to be one of 10 wrestlers allowed to switch to the main shows. However, in March 2013, she broke her arm and had to undergo major surgery. On May 17, 2013 Bogomasova was released from her development contract. She announced legal action against this decision because she injured herself during training and felt betrayed.
