Princess Anna of Orange-Nassau

Anna von Nassau (born November 5, 1563 in Breda , † June 13, 1588 in Franeker ) was a Dutch noblewoman, Princess of Nassau-Orange and by marriage Countess of Nassau-Dillenburg.

Life

Anna was a daughter of the Dutch freedom fighter Wilhelm I of Nassau-Orange and his second wife Anna of Saxony .

Due to the early breakdown of her parents' marriage, Anna and her siblings were separated from her mother and grew up with her uncle Johann and his numerous children in Dillenburg . Here she fell in love with her cousin Wilhelm Ludwig . The marriage was also requested by Anna's father and her stepmother Louise de Coligny , but Wilhelm Ludwig's father was against the marriage, presumably because of the ailing financial background of the princess.

Anna's brother Moritz von Oranien , like some German relatives, helped out with considerable funds, so that Anna was able to marry Count Wilhelm Ludwig von Nassau-Dillenburg in Franeker on November 25, 1587 . The marriage lasted less than a year, however, and was ended by Anna's untimely death on June 13, 1588. Wilhelm Ludwig could hardly cope with the death of his beloved wife, never remarried and died without offspring.
