Reformation in Grönenbach

Entrance front of the Lower Castle

Anna's husband, Philipp von Pappenheim, introduced the Reformation in Grönenbach after Calvin in 1559 . After his death in 1619, Anna von Pappenheim continued the Reformation in his spirit. She lived in the Lower Castle in Grönenbach and housed the Calvinist preacher Adolf Langhans there in 1625, in order to have the Calvinist retreat there, as in the Schulerloch district .

death

Former crypt, today's crypt, of St. Philipp and Jakob in Bad Grönenbach

Anna von Pappenheim died of the plague on September 30, 1635 in Memmingen. The body was transferred from Memmingen to Grönenbach on October 4, 1635 and buried there in the crypt of the collegiate church of St. Philip and St. James . Since it was forbidden to use the collegiate church by the Reformed in 1635, the collegiate church was forcibly broken into by the Rotenstein Vogt Weidlin (Weidle) and the body was laid out in the crypt. Only a week later, on October 10, 1635, did the funeral take place at night.
