Anna von der Mark-Arenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anna von der Mark-Arenberg († 1436 in Cologne ) was abbess at Freckenhorst Abbey .

Life

Origin and family

Anna von der Mark-Arenberg came from the ancient noble family von der Mark as the daughter of Count Everhard von der Mark and his wife Countess Maria von Looz .

Career and work

Anna and her sister Margaretha initially worked as canonesses in the Essen monastery . Margaretha became abbess in 1412 and remained in office until her resignation on April 8, 1426. Anna was a member of the electoral board for the new election. She was on the side of the defeated candidate Elisabeth von Beek. In order to avoid any inconvenience, she probably decided to go to Freckenhorster Abbey. The four-year vacancy is remarkable , because Anna's predecessor Margaretha von Ahaus left the Freckenhorst Abbey in 1423 to work in the Diepenveen monastery . The only documentary evidence from her term of office dates from October 9, 1427, when she bought a servant from the squires Konrad and Rotger Voss . Anna has Freckenhorst waived because her successor Anna von Plesse had since 1433 in office.
