history

The chapel consecrated to St. Anne was built in 1698 by the Franciscans of the Cologne Franciscan Province ( Colonia ) with the help of the population of Lützenkirchen. It is located on the "Annaberg" above the Wiembach , next to the St. Maurinus parish church , which was thoroughly rebuilt from 1683–1686 .

From around 1695 the Franciscans had been helping out in the parish pastoral care in Lützenkirchen because the pastor's position was not occupied. At first they lived in a rented apartment, built the chapel and founded a monastic settlement in 1705. Pastor Coenen, who was introduced to his office in 1699, caused the Franciscans to leave Lützenkirchen again around 1715 against the will of the population. The parish then took care of the Anna chapel. In the following centuries the chapel was at times a popular pilgrimage destination in the annual "Annaoktav" around the feast of the church patron Anna on July 26th. The Franciscan monastery served as a school house from 1728 to 1818 and contained apartments for sextons and vicars.

From around 1810 there was a plan to convert the Anna Chapel into a schoolhouse. It was run by Jakob Salentin von Zuccalmaglio , the then mayor of the Miselohe office , but met with stiff resistance from the residents. They went armed with scythes, hatchets and pitchforks and with the cry “We give our lives for Saint Anne” against the construction work - described by the newspapers as a “peasant uprising in Lützenkirchen”. After judicial investigations, the chapel was returned to its previous condition in 1814 and continues to serve as a place of worship. In 1932 it was renovated by members of the Lützenkirchen Kolping Family .
