Annales Petaviani

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Annales Petaviani ("Yearbooks of Petau") is the modern name for an early medieval historical work in Latin.

The name goes back to the previous owner of one of the two manuscripts that André Duchesne used for his first edition in the Historiae Francorum scriptores under the title Annales alii Francorum ab anno DCCVIII usque ad annum DCCC , the French book collector and councilor at the Parlement de Paris , Alexandre Petau. The annals deal with the period from 708 to 799 in regular records. The description up to 771 is, however, a compilation from older sources, before the independent representation begins. The annals contain some valuable information for the Carolingian era , for example with regard to the presumed year of birth of Charlemagne .
