Anne Bignan
Anne Bignan (born August 3, 1795 in Lyon , † November 27, 1861 ) was a French writer and translator.
In 1819 Bignan published three chants of the Iliad in French translation, which established his reputation as a translator of Homer's works . The complete translation of the Iliad appeared in 1830, that of the Odyssey followed in 1841. Both works have been reprinted several times.
He was recognized by the Société royale des bonnes lettres , the Académie des jeux floraux and in 1829 as a Knight of the Legion of Honor. Bignan wrote several novels and plays and published a volume of poetry in 1850.
