Anneli Aarika-Szrok

Eini Anneli Aarika-Szrok , née Eili Anneli Fagerholm (born October 18, 1924 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish singer with alto voice, vocal teacher and functionary .

Life

Anneli Aarika-Szrok's father Einar was a representative, her mother Inkeri a social inspector. From 1944 she was a member of the Communist Party of Finland and Pääsihteeri [General Secretary] of the Suomen Demokraattinen Nuorisoliitto SDNL [Finnish Democratic Youth Group], a left-wing youth organization. After finishing school in Helsinki, she studied singing at the Sibelius Academy from 1944 to 1949 . In 1949 she went to Hungary, where she studied singing at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest until 1952 . In 1954 she won the first prize at the Prague Spring International Music Festival. She was a soloist and sang in the premiere of the opera at the Hungarian State OperaThe Adventure of Huszt by Pál Kadosa . Well-known roles were Ulrika in Un ballo di maschera and Marfa in Khovanchina . In 1961 she returned to Finland. She worked for the City of Helsinki and became the managing director of the Society of Finnish-Hungarian Friendship and member of the board of the Association of Friendship between Finland and the Soviet Union SNS. She also taught singing at the Musiikkiopisto [Music Institute] in Rihimäki . She is married to Istvan Szrok. In 1951 their child named Antti was born.
