Annette Kolb (biologist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Annette Kolb (* 20th century in Bremen ) is a German biologist and vegetation ecologist at the University of Bremen .

Live and act

Annette Kolb worked at John in Berlin in 1992. F. Kennedy School graduated from high school and studied biology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and in the USA. In 1999, she received her Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Plant Biology from the University of Massachusetts . In 2000 she passed the state examination for teaching in biology and geography at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . She did her doctorate on investigating the effects of fragmentation on the devil's claw ( Phyteuma , genus within the bellflower family (Campanulaceae)) in a protected area near Stade . In 2005 she submitted her dissertation to the University of Bremen. Kolb works as a lecturer in Martin Diekmann's work group .

Kolb researches and works on the population biology of plants, in evolutionary ecology, on animal-plant interactions ( herbivory ) and the effects of global environmental changes (especially habitat fragmentation and climate change). Annette Kolb is also active in teaching and offers, among other things, identification exercises and vegetation courses in the biology and ecology courses at the University of Bremen.

Awards (selection)

  • Bremen Study Prize 2005; Special prize of the Rotary Club Bremen-Roland for her dissertation "The distribution of forest plant species in a fragmented landscape: patterns and processes".
  • Horst Wiehe Prize 2005, awarded by the Society for Ecology for her dissertation "The distribution of forest plant species in a fragmented landscape: patterns and processes". The prize is awarded to young scientists every two years for outstanding scientific work on an ecological issue. In the laudation, her work is rated as a prime example of ecological research.
  • Volunteers Program National Award 2001; US Forest Service award for botanical work on the White River National Forest, Colorado, 2000
