Annette Schwarzenau

Annette Schwarzenau (born August 30, 1943 in Bünde ; † November 3, 2009 in Berlin-Schöneberg ) was a German health politician and the first AL city ​​councilor in West Berlin .

Life

Annette Schwarzenau trained as a nurse in Tübingen. There she got in contact with the protesting students of the SDS , as well as through a visit to her brother-in-law Bahman Nirumand in June 1967 in West Berlin. In 1968 she moved to Berlin herself and was involved in the ÖTV and as a staff councilor at the Wilmersdorf hospital . In the 1970s she was a member of SEW and in the late 1970s she was involved in the opposition group Die Klarheit .

Schwarzenau played a major role in the dispute about the abolition of hoods in German hospitals. From 1983 to 1985 she was head nurse in a Hamburg hospital and active at the GAL . During these years she continued her trade union and professional activities.

In 1985 she returned to West Berlin and became city ​​councilor for health in the Charlottenburg district , and later also for the environment and transport. She stayed that way until 1995.

Schwarzenau shaped a new concept of health in local politics as well as in the trade union discourse. This made her a pioneer in a new drug policy and in AIDS prevention. Her professional focus was on care for the elderly, from 2001 to 2008 she was chairman of the association for self-determined living in old age .
