Annie Nightingale MBE (born April 1, 1942 in West London) is England's first female radio DJ . She moderates her own radio show, which is traded as a trend-setting medium for international breakbeat music.

Annie on the radio

In 1970 Nightingale became a presenter on BBC Radio 1 and was England's first female DJ at the time. From 1997 on, Annie Nightingale hosted her legendary Saturday night Sunday morning radio show "Annie On One" on BBC Radio 1. The show became known far beyond the borders of the United Kingdom .

BBC Radio 1 describes Annie's show as the greatest online success ("... radio one´s biggest on-line success") since it was possible to follow Radio 1 broadcasts globally on the Internet . She is considered the queen of "after-club madness" and guides party enthusiasts, not only in England, through the early hours of the morning. The radio programs hosted by Nightingale are very purist in design. At the end of the 90s, the now world-famous DJ duo Basement Jaxx became famous through their first mix in Annie's show. The Annie Nightingale Show is regarded as a guide for trends in international breakbeat music. "I want to show the people the new stuff," she said in an interview at the Glastonbury Festival in 2005 .

Since 2003, Annie Nightingale has been running a shortened program at a new slot on Thursday, which she titled "New Friday" at the start of her radio show ("Thursday will be the new Friday - the new weekend.")

Nightingale has been Radio 1's longest-serving presenter since the death of John Peel .

The latest bizarre show are the so-called "tower shows". Since 2004, BBC Radio 1 has been celebrating the “last summer sunrise party”. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, Nightingale invites well-known breakbeat DJs to hang up in towers in order to watch the last sunrise of the year before seven o'clock. In 2004 Annie celebrated on the BT Tower in London, September 2005 on the Berlin television tower . The multi-hour events will be broadcast on BBC Radio 1 in the UK and worldwide on the Internet. According to Nightingale, every listener is on the “Global Guest List”, the global guest list, and can follow the party regardless of time and place.
