Annius of Viterbo
Annius von Viterbo (born January 5, 1437 in Viterbo ; † September 13, 1502 in Rome ; born as Giovanni Nanni (Nenni); also Joannes Annius Viterb (i) ensis ) was an Italian Dominican monk who was a historian at the papal court worked. He is known as a forger of historical documents .
He is the author of the forgery, exposed as a pseudo- Berossos , which was printed in Rome in 1498 and connects the history of the Bible with the Germania of Tacitus . His family tree of alleged Germanic tribes had a far-reaching effect in equating Germans with Germans . There has been much debate about the authenticity of these documents, but Joseph Justus Scaliger has proven the forgeries.
