Anotylus tetracarinatus , Syn .: Oxytelus tetracarinatus is a beetle from the family of the short-winged (Staphylinidae). The species is the most common species of the genus in Central Europe and probably also of the whole family.

features

The beetles reach a body length of 1.7 to 2.1 millimeters and have a dark body color. The rails ( tibia ) of the forelegs are not indented on the outside at the tip. The abdomen of the males has no humps.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in the Palearctic and North America. In Northern Europe, especially in the middle and south, the species is less common, in Central and Southern Europe it is common to very common everywhere. The animals occur as ubiquists in a wide variety of putrefactive materials. Frequently swarming imagines in the spring or early summer warm day in large numbers in the afternoon or evening.
