In the attack in Hamburg on April 29, 2000 , an assassin set off a fragmented hand grenade in the VIP area of ​​the Hamburg discotheque J’s in Flakturm IV in St. Pauli (bunker on Feldstrasse) at 3 a.m. and seriously injured nine people two life-threatening.

Sequence of events

The Yugoslav design fragmentation grenade ( type M75 ) detonated shortly after 3:00 am in J’s discotheque in St. Pauli . At that time there were around 1500 people at a party organized by Michael Ammer . Actor Heiner Lauterbach and his girlfriend Jenny Elvers were among the guests that evening . Both had left the event about five minutes before the detonation. There were also musicians and producer Dieter Bohlen as well as the actors Til Schweiger , Heinz Hoenig and Mark Kellerin the discotheque. The hand grenade was placed between the cushions of a seating area in the VIP area by the perpetrator. The perpetrator moved away before the explosion.

Victim

Nine people were seriously injured as a result, two of them life-threatening. In some cases, victims had to struggle with the crime for years, because in addition to the physical, there were also psychological consequences.

Perpetrator

The culprit was the Turk Cüneyt D., who already had a number of previous convictions. It was first recorded in Germany in 1980. He was eight years old at the time and came to Hamburg as part of the family reunification. In 1987 the authorities noted his move to Billstedt in the files. The time difference can be explained by the fact that foreign children and young people did not need a residence permit at that time . From 1988 onwards, Cüneyt D. was a regular case for law enforcement agencies. Various proceedings were initiated against him. However, he would not have been expelled until he had been sentenced for at least three years.

judgment

The Hamburg Regional Court sentenced the attacker to twelve years and nine months in prison for the attack in J’s disco in Hamburg . The jury chamber's verdict was above the ten years and nine months imprisonment requested by the public prosecutor. In 2001 it was announced that the assassin would be deported after serving his prison sentence.

Consequences, effects

Also because of this act, the security precautions in discos have been tightened, z. B. by scanner or scanning. Nevertheless, in the opinion of the presiding judge of the jury chamber of the Hamburg regional court, the act contributed to the fact that the "fear in discos has reached a new dimension ...".
