Anselmo Gray

Raúl Anselmo Grau Ribeiro (born December 4, 1930 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † October 13, 2001 ) was a Uruguayan musician and radio host .

He made his debut on January 17, 1959 as a soloist on the radio station El Espectador . He learned to play the guitar with Atilio Rapat , where Lauro Ayestarán was his role model. In the 1960s he performed on Uruguayan television for the programs “Esta tarde en lo de Anselmo” and “Guitarreada”. In 1967 he published his book “Canciones y cuentos”. During the civil-military dictatorship in Uruguay, he was in exile in Buenos Aires between 1975 and 1985 . After his return he gave several concerts and also performed the radio show “Canta el Uruguay” on CX 40 Radio Fénix. He was also an advisor to the Asociación General de Autores del Uruguay (AGADU). In 1998 Ayuí / Tacuabé published the anthology "Canta el Uruguay".
