Mitterhart residence in Vomp

The Mitterhart mansion (also called Gwercher Schlössl after a previous owner ) is located in the municipality of Vomp in the Schwaz district in the state of Tyrol (Innhöfe 3).

history

In 1515/20 the house was built for knight Hieronymus von Stauber († 1636), a Fugger finance expert , and was freed as a residence . Hieronymus Stauber also acquired Sigmundslust around 1600 and now owned two mansions in Vomp. On the marriage route in 1694 the Mitterhart mansion came to Baron Ferdinand Fieger von Hirschberg († 1710) via Regina von Immhof, the last of the Stauber family . Around 1700 he had the Mitterhart mansion expanded like a palace. The topographer Johann Jakob Staffler (1783–1868) described the Mitterhart residence as “a graceful building”. The travel writer Beda Weber (1798–1858) wrote about the Schlössl that all travelers from Innsbruck “catch the eye when entering the Schwatz market - not large, but well-tended and neat”.

In 1802 Johann Gwercher († 1852) bought the Mitterhart residence - hence the name Gwercher Schlössl . Josef Ritter von Woertz bought the property around 1853. He had already  bought Hirschberg Castle in Wenns from the Fieger estate in 1817 . On April 27, 1873, it was bought by Josef Mayr, a carter, dealer and farmer from Matrei am Brenner . Today the estate is owned by the sixth generation of this family (today Mair). Since 1938 the Gwercher Schlössl , which also includes an agricultural business, has been run as an inn with the name Schloss Mitterhart .

Mitterhart residence today

The octagonal tower with a large, constricted, baroque onion dome is characteristic of the residence. It has a portal with a bulging rustica frame and side columns with a balcony. The house has been rebuilt several times. Inside there are rooms with flat-volume stucco from around 1730.

The "Gwercher-Schlössl" has been an inn and castle hotel since the 1930s.
