Ansumana Sanneh (Seyfo)

Alhaji Karang Ansumana Sanneh is Seyfo (also the English term chief is common) for the Gambian district of Kiang East .

Sanneh became a teacher at Yundum College (today: Gambia College ) in 1977 and was headmaster until he entered active politics in 1997.

In the 1997 general election , Sanneh ran as a candidate for the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) in the Kiang East constituency. He was narrowly defeated by his opponent Buba Samura from the United Democratic Party (UDP) with 49.37% of the vote.

Effective September 19, 2001, Sanneh was appointed Seyfo of Kiang East District, succeeding Sheriff Nyaling Sanneh .

In November 2008, Sanneh was relieved of his position as Seyfo, and Alhagie Cherno Sanneh took over the official business on his behalf. In May 2009 the decision was reversed and Sanneh continued the official business.

In late June 2010, Sanneh and three other people were accused of embezzling funds between October 2000 and October 2008. The case was heard in the Mansakonko Magistrates Court. During the ongoing criminal proceedings against Sanneh, Kebuteh Jassey (or Kebuteh Jarsey ) was appointed acting Seyfo and Sanneh was dismissed, effective July 2, 2010. In late January 2011, Ansumana Sanneh and the other defendants were acquitted for lack of evidence.

Effective June 27, 2011, Sanneh was reinstated in the position of Seyfo. A year later, on July 27, 2012, he was removed from office and Kebuteh Jassey reinstated. On October 30, 2013, Sanneh was reinstated in the office of Seyfo.
