Antônio Carlos Magalhães (born September 4, 1927 in Salvador , Bahia, † July 20, 2007 in São Paulo , Brazil ) was a Brazilian politician and three times governor of the state of Bahia .

Magalhães studied medicine and began his political career at the age of 27 when he was elected to the Bahian legislature . In 1964 he supported the military coup carried out with the help of the USA, through which President João Goulart was ousted. Military officials then named him mayor of Salvador , Brazil's third largest city, and twice governor of Bahia state. Due to his rough political work during the dictatorship from 1964 to 1985, he was nicknamed Toninho Malvaldeza or Tony Evil . From 1985 to 1990 he was Minister of Communications in President José Sarney's cabinet.

In 1991 he was elected Governor of Bahia for the third time and was elected Senator in 1994. He also served as President of the Senate from 1997 to 2001. His son Luís Eduardo Magalhães died of a heart attack in 1998 at the age of 43.

On July 20, 2007, Antonio Carlos Magalhães died of multiple organ failure in a hospital in São Paulo.
