Antonio Meneses

Antônio Meneses Neto (born August 23, 1957 in Recife , Pernambuco ) is a Brazilian cellist .

Meneses is considered the most prominent student of Antonio Janigro , whose long-time assistant he was at the Stuttgart University of Music . He was the only cellist to win both the ARD competition and the Tchaikovsky competition .

He was a professor at the Basel Music Academy and cellist in the world-famous Beaux Arts Trio .

Among his numerous recordings, the von Brahms' double concerto with Anne Sophie Mutter and the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan are particularly noteworthy ; that of Richard Strauss ' Don Quixote , also with Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker; as well as those of the two cello concertos and the Fantasy for cello and orchestra by Heitor Villa-Lobos with the Galician Symphony Orchestra.
