Ante Perica

Ante Perica (born June 9, 1970 in Split ) is a Croatian basketball coach .

career

From 1988 Perica studied theoretical and mathematical physics. From 1993 he worked as a research assistant at the "Rudjer Boskovic" institute in Zagreb and in 1996 obtained a doctorate in physics from the University of Zagreb . Perica later completed a second degree in sports science and graduated with a doctorate in 2011. The topic of his dissertation was "Analysis and evaluation of position and transition defense in basketball".

Perica worked as a basketball coach in the youth division of Cibona Zagreb , in the 1998/99 season he was Jasmin Repesa's assistant coach at the Turkish club Tofas Bursa and helped to win the Turkish championship title in 1999. In the 1999/2000 season, Perica worked under Ivan Sunara as an assistant coach at the top Slovenian club KK Krka Novo Mesto , which won the championship title in 2000.

In 2000/01 he worked again at Croatia Split as assistant to Jasmin Repesa, and from 2001 to 2003 Perica was assistant coach at the Slovenian club KK Pivovarna Laško . In 2003 he took the step to head coach at BC Koper (Slovenia) and looked after the first division team in the 2003/04 season. In the following game year 2004/05 he coached another Slovenian first division club with KK Elektra Sostanj and was also the assistant coach of the Slovenian U20 national team, which became European champions in summer 2004.

In the summer of 2005 he was responsible for coaching the Slovenian team at the U21 World Cup. The 2005/06 season he began as the head coach of the Slovenian first division club KK Pivovarna Laško, but was dismissed in December 2005 due to the poor sporting situation of the team.

In February 2007 Perica was hired as head coach of the Austrian Bundesliga club Oberwart Gunners and led the team to the Bundesliga final in the same season, where Gmunden was defeated. In the 2007/08 season the Burgenlanders again became Austrian runners-up under Perica, and the Croatian was then named “Coach of the Year” in the 2007/08 Bundesliga season. He remained in office in Oberwart until the end of the 2008/09 season.

In the 2009/10 season Perica was initially working for the Cypriot club Apollon Limassol as a coach, in December 2009 it came to a separation. In October 2010 he took over the coaching position at the Croatian first division club KK Trogir and after a year moved back to Austria, where he coached the Bundesliga club Kapfenberg Bulls from the 2011/12 season. In November 2013 he was dismissed by the Styrians after the sporting expectations of the club at the beginning of the 2013/14 season had not been met. In 2012 and 2013 he led Kapfenberg to the semi-finals of the Bundesliga championship round.

In October 2014, Perica took up his position as head coach of the Hungarian club Egis Körmend. In December 2014, Perica and Körmend separated. From March 2015, Perica headed the youth department at KK Split.

In August 2017 he was introduced as the new coach of the Bundesliga club BK Klosterneuburg . After being eliminated in the playoff quarter-finals, Perica and the club split amicably in May 2018. At the end of July / beginning of August 2018 he was in charge of Austria's U18 selection at the European B Championships in Skopje . In December 2018 he was appointed to the position of federal coordinator of the Austrian Basketball Association to work for the association in the areas of coach and player training, networking of top sports centers and the development of national teams.
