Anthicus flavipes is a beetle from the family of flower sap beetles (Anthicidae). The species was first described by Georg Wolfgang Franz Panzer in 1797 as Notoxus flavipes .

features

Anthicus flavipes belongs to the genus Anthicus , an ants- like heat-loving beetle. The beetles of the species Anthicus flavipes are 2 to 2.5 millimeters long. The head and pronotum have very coarse, dense puncturing. The pronotum is conspicuously spherical in front. It is rounded towards the back. The elytra are less roughly punctured. Are covered with short, almost lying, gray-white hairs. The body of the beetle is black or black-brown, while the wing covers are often lighter. The antennae and legs are colored solid yellow-red. The specific epithet flavipes (in Latin: flavus for "yellow"; pes for "foot") is derived from this property .

distribution

Anthicus flavipes is widespread in Europe. The occurrence of the species extends in the north to Scandinavia and the British Isles . There the beetle species occurs mainly in heat-favored areas near the coast. In Germany one finds the kind u. a. in the Upper Rhine Plain . In the south the distribution area extends to the Mediterranean, in the east to the Middle East and West Asia.

Way of life

The species Anthicus flavipes prefers areas with dry and sandy soils, especially near water , as a habitat. In the Rhineland, the species can also be found in gravel pits. The beetles can be seen from mid-April to September, but mainly between May and July during their mating season. The species probably overwinters as a larva or in the pupal stage .
