Anthonie van Borssom
Anthonie van Borssom (also Boresom, Borssum), (* around 1630 in Amsterdam ; † 1677 ibid) was a Dutch painter and draftsman.
Life
The exact dates of birth and death of the artist are not known, but the day of baptism (January 2, 1631) and the day of burial (March 19, 1677) have survived.
Although there are no verifiable sources for this, it is generally believed that Borssom was a student of Rembrandt , as some of his drawings were influenced by Rembrandt's etchings of the 1640s.
Often the pictures signed with AVBorssom follow a certain picture structure, according to which the foreground is determined by a body of water, a farm, a windmill or dilapidated stables are in the center of the picture and other buildings complete the view below a low horizon.
The combination of his drawings with light watercolors was particularly popular in the 18th century. His motifs include numerous castles, churches and city gates, which he captured while traveling through the provinces of Utrecht , Gelderland and the Lower Rhine . Views of Naarden , Maartensdijk , Soest , Oosterbeek , Elten and Kleve are known .
