Anthophora furcata is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees are 11 to 12 millimeters long. The females are hairy golden brown, only on the vertex, the middle of the thorax and the fourth tergite the hair is black. The fifth tergite has a rust-red end fringe. The splint brush (Scopa) is yellow-brown. The cheeks are very narrow. The males have the same hairs as the females, but also have black hair on the other tergites. Her face is marked in yellow. The seventh tergite has corners on the sides and is two-pointed at the end, with it being deeply notched in between.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread throughout Europe and inhabits forest areas, but also gardens and hedges. It flies from mid-May to early October, probably in two generations. The females build their nests in rotten wood or marrow-containing plant stems. They gnaw out the corridors and cells themselves. Pollen is collected from mint plants (Lamiaceae) and some figwort plants (Scrophulariaceae). Cuckoo bees of the species are Coelioxys conica and Coelioxys rufescens .
