Anti-corrosive agents

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An anti-corrosion agent is a substance that temporarily or permanently protects materials against corrosive attack. Corrosion inhibitors are used for corrosion protection .

properties

Common anti-corrosion agents include oils , paints ( coatings made of plastics), chemicals, metals and metal oxides . They can be applied permanently in order to avoid or delay corrosion during the use of an object and thus to extend the service life. A corrosion protection agent or even a rust converter is often added to primers for surfaces that have already been corroded, whereby the primer can then be painted over. Depending on the intended use, the anti-corrosion agent is applied repeatedly. In the case of surfaces that come into permanent contact with a corrosive medium, in particular water , for example in a cooling circuit or in the fuel supply, corrosion inhibitors can be added to the medium . These are usually contained in an anti-corrosion agent as additives between 5 and 25% by weight. Corrosion inhibitors are often basic , e.g. B. by adding alkaline earth metal sulfonates or metal soaps . Glycol ethers , among others, are used as water displacers . Corrosion protection agents can be divided into organic solvent-based corrosion protection agents, water-based corrosion protection agents, corrosion protection oils , dipping waxes and lubricating greases with corrosion inhibitors.

In the case of temporary corrosion protection measures, the corrosion protection agent is removed before the item is used. It is then only used to ensure functionality until it is used. Often, waxes or oils are used for this purpose , which additionally contain further inhibitors . As a temporary protective measure z. B. for the transport come from paper or backing films outgassing volatile corrosion inhibitors (so-called volatile corrosion inhibitor ) are used.

The essential requirements for a corrosion protection agent are environmental compatibility, good corrosion protection and ease of use.

use

Corrosion inhibitors are used, among other things, in motor vehicles for underbody protection , in contact sprays , for cavity sealing , as pole grease and in car wax .
