Antoine Pascual (born December 3, 1933 in Oran ) is a former French football player .

Career

Pascual was born in the Algerian city of Oran and grew up in Algeria, which was then part of France. As a child he began playing basketball before he joined the AS Marine football club from Oran in 1947 at the age of 13 . In this he proved to be a talented defender and finally made the leap into the first team. In 1953 he had to leave the club to do his military service, but continued to play football. At this time he was discovered by the talent scouts of the French professional club Stade Rennes and invited to a trial training session. As a result, he signed a contract with the West French and was there from 1954 on the second team.

After long membership of the amateur team of Rennes, he was called up on May 12, 1957 in a 1-1 draw against AS Saint-Étienne for the first time among the professionals and thus reached his first division debut at the age of 23. However, at the end of the season 1956/57 he had to accept the team's relegation to the second division. After relegation, he established himself alongside Jacques Poulain and Yves Boutet as a regular player and was involved in direct resurgence in 1958. Subsequently, the defensive was reinforced by Joseph Donnard and André Le Menn , which Pascual did not take a permanent place in the first division season 1958/59. In 1959 he moved to the second division SO Montpellier , but could not establish himself there permanently. At the end of the 1959/60 season he ended his professional career after 15 first and 40 second division games. He decided to pursue a further career as a coach and, after completing the necessary diplomas, was active in this position for various amateur clubs.
