The Antonín Dvořák Theater (Czech: Divadlo Antonína Dvořáka ) in Ostrava is an opera house in the Czech Republic that opened on September 28, 1907. It is part of the Moravian-Silesian National Theater , founded in 1918.

history

The building, built in the neo-baroque style by the architect Alexander Graf and the Ostrav company Noe & Storch . was the first reinforced concrete structure on the soil of the Czech Republic.

The interior decoration and the sculpting of the sculptures was in the hands of Johann Bock & Sohn . The statues placed on the outer facades were the work of the sculptors Eduard Smetana and Leopold Kosiga . Helene Scholz-Zelezny donated drama and music , two reliefs in the main foyer .

The building, built at the beginning of the 20th century, was exclusively a German theater until 1919. After the First World War it was renamed the National Moravian-Bohemian Theater , in 1949 in Divadlo Zdeňka Nejedlého ( Zdeněk-Nejedlý Theater) and in 1990 in the name Divadlo Antonína Dvořáka , which is still valid today .
