Anton Bach
Anton Bach (* 1762 in Ottaker near Kempten ; † March 23, 1825 in Altheim near Linz ) was a German Catholic clergyman.
Live and act
Anton Bach was a son of Sigmund Bach (* 1725) and Anna Barbara Zettler. His paternal grandparents were Philipp Bach and Ursula Schibl, née Eberl.
Like almost all theologians close to him, Bach was a student and friend of Johann Michael Sailer . He himself worked as one of the leaders of the revival movement in the Bavarian regions around Kempten and in the Allgäu. His colleagues included Martin Boos , Johann Michael Feneberg , Christoph Schmid , Andreas Siller, Xaver Bayr, Ignaz Lindl and Johannes Evangelist Gossner . The theologians pursued the motto "Christ in us and for us" and campaigned for a deepened Christianity that took up mystical-spiritualistic and enthusiastic aspects. They were influenced by radical separatist Pietism as well as by Protestantism and Martin Luther .
The Catholic Church strongly criticized Bach and his colleagues. In 1798, Bach had to give up his pastoral office in Hellengerst . He then worked first in the diocese of Augsburg , later in many places in the diocese of Linz , where he was only active for a few years. In 1811, he resigned from Martin Boos' allegiance, which is probably only lip service.
