Anton Mangstl

Anton Mangstl (* 1949 in Taufkirchen ) is a German agricultural scientist, he is a specialist in agricultural informatics and knowledge management and was department director at the FAO in Rome and vice-rector at the German-Jordanian University in Amman Jordan .

Life

After training in agriculture and completing his studies at the engineering school for agriculture in Schönbrunn (Landshut) , Mangstl studied agricultural sciences at the Weihenstephan TU Munich , specializing in plant production. After graduating in 1975, he was awarded a doctorate in 1978. agr. From 1978 to 1989 Mangstl worked as a research assistant at Ludwig Reiner in research and teaching on a large number of innovative projects.

Examples are the structure of the information system for crop production (ISPLANZ), the development of planning and forecasting models and the establishment of the Society for Informatics in Agriculture (GIL) in 1980. The first station outside the university took him to Bonn in 1989 as director of the Central Office for Agricultural Documentation and Information (ZADI). In 1996 he received a call from Rome as department director at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the areas of information and knowledge management, e-learning and capacity building. In recognition of his international achievements, he was awarded the title of professor hc by the National Agrarian University of Ukraine in 2001 .

In 2011 Mangstl accepted the position of Vice Rector of the German-Jordanian University in Amman , which he carried out until his retirement in June 2016.

Anton Mangstl is married to Sophie Mangstl.
