Joana Vaya Malinao Houplin (born February 12, 1990 in Mindanao , Cebu ) is a Filipino - American football player .
Life
Houplin was born in Mindanao , Cebu , Philippines , before moving to the Isle of Dogs in the East End of the British capital, London, at the age of four . In 2002, her family left the UK and moved to the United States, where she grew up in Tumwater . In 2004, Houplin went to Shelton High School in Shelton , Washington, and a year later to Olympia High School in Olympia , Washington . She graduated from OHS high school in 2008 and enrolled at Western Washington University in Bellingham . She attended Western Washington University for four years and received her bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2012 . In addition to her Filipino citizenship, she has also had US citizenship since 2009. She is a member of the Filipino-American community in Washington .
Career
In the club
Houplin started her active football career in the summer of 2003 with Blackhills Football Club in Olympia, Washington . This was followed by a career at Shelton High School from fall 2004 , where she played for the Climbers Soccer Team. A year later she left high school without a degree and went to Olympia High School , where she played for the Bears Soccer Team. In the fall of 2008, she enrolled at Western Washington University and played 55 games for the Vikings Women Soccer Team by 2012, scoring 23 goals.
During the semester break in 2012, she played in the WPSL for the Issaquah Soccer Club. After her bachelor's degree in spring 2013, she was selected in the Supplemental Draft by the NWSL participant Seattle Reign FC , but was only a substitute there and was not used. She then returned to the squad of Issaquah SC, which has been a reserve team for Seattle Reign FC since the 2013 season.
National team
Houplin has been a member of the Philippine national soccer team since 2012 . She made her unofficial debut in a test match as part of a training camp on November 27, 2012 at Titan Stadium in Fullerton , California .
As a trainer
In addition to her active football career, she is also assistant coach of the women's football team at Western Washington University.
Athletics career
During her high school days, she ran for three years as a sprinter in the hall and in the stadium. Houplin represented Washington State in national competitions in the 200-meter run and 4-by-200-meter run.
