Anton Emanuel Peschka (born February 21, 1885 in Vienna ; † September 9, 1940 there ) was an Austrian painter.

Live and act

Peschka studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl , where Egon Schiele was his friend and fellow student. He married Schiele's sister Gertrude in 1914. He also became acquainted with Gustav Klimt through Schiele . The Wien Museum is keeping a fabulous portrait of Egon Schiele in his hand.

Peschka exhibited in the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1910 and 1919 and was a member of the Hagenbund from 1922 to 1935 . In 1921 he won a stamp competition and in 1925 a competition for the design of banknotes.

In 1910 he exhibited in the Neukunstgruppe . In 1923, Fritz Karpfen wrote enthusiastically about Peschka in his overview of Austrian art: "His pictures are penetrating, break the mold of the traditional and happily build a new representation ... You feel that there is an artist here who could achieve great things, who has what it takes to do it. "

From 1922 to 1935, as a member of the Hagenbund, he was represented with works at almost all exhibitions. Member of the artists' association "Wassermann", Salzburg, founded by Felix Albrecht Harta and Anton Faistauer . He was also represented at exhibitions by the artist group " Maerz ", Linz.

The artist's son, Anton Peschka junior (1914–1997), was also a painter and is buried in an honorary grave of the City of Vienna (Ober St. Veit Cemetery, Group L, Row 16, No. 11)

Peschka mainly created nudes and landscapes. His work is strongly influenced by Schiele. In 1993 the Peschkaweg in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.
