Anton Schmitz (born July 2, 1855 in Grimlinghausen , † 1935 in Morken ) was a German animal and hunting painter.

After completing his commercial apprenticeship and training as a porcelain painter, Schmitz learned decorative painting in Weimar from 1874 . In 1876 he became a student of Carl Friedrich Deiker in Düsseldorf . He worked in Düsseldorf until 1909, mainly painting animal and hunting pictures and became a member of the Malkasten artists' association . In 1909 he settled in Haarf near Grevenbroich . Anton Schmitz is assigned to the Düsseldorf School of Painting .
