Anton Stefko

Anton Stefko (born August 30, 1960 ) is a Czechoslovak table tennis player . He became German team champion with Grenzau.

CSSR

Stefko took part in the 1978 European Youth Championship in Barcelona. Here he was third in the individual. In doubles he reached the final with Jindřich Panský , which was lost against the Romanians Simion Crişan / Georg Boehm . He was twice the Czech champion. With the Vitkovice club, he was one of the leading teams in the ČSSR. In the national rankings he came in second behind Milan Orlowski .

At the beginning of 1982 Stefko played at the International German Championships in Kiel. Here he left the ČSSR delegation and asked for asylum in the Federal Republic.

Germany

Stefko settled in Grenzau. Since the changeover period for the 1981/82 season had passed, he was not allowed to play in the Bundesliga . Instead he was used in the second team of the TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau in the Rhineland-Palatinate League. At the same time he taught at Manfred Gstettner's table tennis school in Grenzau. In 1983/84 he played for VfB Altena, in 1988/89 for TTC Grünweiß Bad Hamm , but returned to Grenzau every time. With Grenzau he was German team champion at the end of the 1990/91 season. In 1995 he acquired the A license as a trainer.

From 2004 to 2006 Stefko joined 1. FC Saarbrücken . He then moved to SV Maischaid in the Rhineland League as a player-coach. In 2010 he returned to Grenzau and has been working here as head coach ever since.

In addition to his work as head coach of the Bundesliga team, he also leads the courses at the table tennis school (for everyone) in Grenzau.
