Anton Weissensteiner

Anton Weissensteiner was an Austrian , National Socialist politician and insurance officer from Sauerbrunn . On March 15, 1938, Gauleiter Tobias Portschy appointed him a member of the Burgenland Landtag and from June 1938 was district leader of Voitsberg . Weissensteiner volunteered for the Waffen SS on April 1, 1940 . His training to become an Unterscharfuhrer took place in the SS Unterführerschule in Lublinitz in Silesia. With his unit he went to France, but did not take part in any fighting there. On September 21, 1940 he was placed in the UK by the Gauleiter and returned to the Kreisleiter post. He was then again Kreisleiter from late 1940 to October or November 1941, after which he was again with the Waffen-SS until February 1943, where he was deployed as a tank leader on the Eastern Front. Weissensteiner was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Panzer Assault Badge. During his military service, Weissensteiner was represented as district leader by Hubert Eisner .

Weissensteiner was indicted in the People's Court in 1948 because he was considered a "special agitator" against the Jewish population of Mattersburg . Weissensteiner was charged with numerous crimes against the Jewish population, but only because of illegality, his function as SA Oberstummbannführer, Gauobmann of the DAF Styria (from 1943) and his activity as district leader of Voitsberg (§ 1 Abs. 6 War Criminals Act and § 11 Prohibition Act ) Sentenced to ten years in severe dungeon and financial collapse. Taking into account his imprisonment since May 30, 1945, he was released on October 27, 1949.
