Anton Zemann (born March 27, 1892 in St. Oswald near Freistadt , † March 31, 1954 in Freistadt ) was an Austrian master stonemason and mayor of Freistadt.

Life

Anton Zemann acquired the professional title of engineer through his Matura at a technical college, became a master stonemason and founded the granite works in Freistadt in the interwar period .

Zemann was corps chief of the Freistadt Citizens Corps and President of the Reich Association of Austrian Citizens and Rifle Corps, founded in 1929 .

Zemann was married to the painter Karl Buchta's daughter Karoline.

Anton Zemann was mayor of the city of Freistadt from 1926 to 1938 and from 1945 to 1949. His tenure included the expansion of the streets in the city and suburbs, sewer works, the construction of workers' houses and the regulation of the Feldaist . He also initiated the expansion of the former student residence into a public hospital, the establishment of a public hot bath in the Rathausstöckl and the expansion of a summer bathing and swimming facility. During his tenure, an urban development plan was drawn up including large-scale drainage and large-scale sewerage for the Stieranger site. The city's school system was expanded to include a secondary school (1948) and a vocational school.
