Anton van Munster

Anton Robert Willem Edzart Victor van Munster (born April 7, 1934 in Amsterdam , † February 11, 2009 in Blaricum ) was a Dutch cameraman . He often worked with Bert Haanstra .

Life

Van Munster began his career in 1958 as assistant to cameraman Eduard van der Enden at Bert Haanstra's film ... and the music blows to it . In 1961 he completed a camera degree at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome . After graduating, van Munster was a cameraman for more than 40 feature and documentary films, including numerous nature and animal films. From 1963 Van Munster worked on a number of documentaries and feature films by Bert Haanstra, including Twelve Millions , De Stem van het Water , Fressen und werden , Dokter Pulder zaait papavers , Een Pak Slaag , Chimpanzees among themselves and Vroeger kon je laugh . In 1971 he shot Parisian street shots for Jacques Tati's feature film Trafic and in 1974 he worked on the US documentary The Mating of Animals , which was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar . In 1996 he was one of the cameramen of the animal film The Little Leopard by Hugo van Lawick . In 1999 he was involved in Alan Miller's Cheetah Story about a cheetah family, in 2002 in Addo, Koning der Dieren by Hugo van Lawick and in 2007 in African Bambi by Alan Miller. He shot his last two films War of the Hippos and Survivor in 2008 shortly before his death.

Van Munster was a long-time lecturer at the Film Academy in Amsterdam. In December 2008 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands .

Anton van Munster's younger brother Bertram (* 1940) is a television producer in the United States.
