Antoni Lange (painter)

Antoni Lange (* around 1779 in Vienna ; † 1844 in Lemberg ) was an Austrian painter, lithographer and set designer.

Life

Antoni Lange was the son of an actor from the Vienna Court Theater. He studied painting with Lorenz Adolf Schönberger (1768–1846). In 1810 he moved to Lemberg. For twenty years he worked as a stage designer in Jan Nepomucen Kamiński's theater. Lange created numerous landscape pictures in oil , gouache and watercolor with views from Eastern Galicia , such as Sbarasch , Olesko and Terebowlja , as well as romantic Alpine landscapes.

The albums “Collection of the most beautiful regions of Galicia” (1823), printed by the lithography company Piotr Piller, were created on the basis of Lange's pictures and drawings. And “Collection of Views of the Most Valuable Gardens in Poland” (1825/27).

Fourteen of his pictures adorned the rooms of the Lemberg town hall. The artist was also involved in the decoration of the city on the occasion of various celebrations, such as B. Commissioned visits by the emperor.
