Barbara Antonie Barth , later by Bartolf (born October 25, 1871 in Munich , † May 23, 1956 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ), was the second wife of Duke Ludwig in Bavaria .

Life

Antonie Barth was the daughter of Ludwig Barth and Maria Klara geb. Beyhl and grew up in Munich. As a ballet dancer at the Munich court theater, she drew the attention of the widowed Duke Ludwig in Bavaria , who morganatically married her on November 19, 1892 in Munich ; Antonie, who had only been raised to the nobility three days before the marriage as "Frau von Bartolf", was thus the sister-in-law of Empress Elisabeth of Austria .

The age difference of 40 years between Antonie and the Duke was not a good prerequisite for the marriage from the start and may have been a reason why Antonie entered into a relationship with a younger lover, Maximilian Mayr (1878–1960) from Bayreuth . This relationship resulted in a daughter in 1913, which led the Duke to divorce, which was carried out on July 11, 1913 in Munich.

Then Antonie married the father of her child on June 14, 1914 in Munich.

The daughter Hélène Mayr (1913–2006) married Friedrich Christian Prinz zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1906–1983 ) in 1971 , who was in discussion as King of Iceland in 1939 , and thus became the stepmother of two children, Albrecht and Christine , married baroness of Süßkind-Schwendi .
