Ludwig Wilhelm Herzog in Bavaria (born June 21, 1831 in Munich ; † November 6, 1920 ibid) was a Bavarian cavalry general .

Life

Ludwig Wilhelm, often called Louis, was the oldest child of Max and Ludovika in Bavaria . Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary (Sisi) is one of his nine siblings . He renounced his firstborn right to marry the bourgeois actress Henriette Mendel (later Baroness von Wallersee) around 1859 .

He went through a military career in the Bavarian Army , was there a. a. as a major in the 1st Chevaulegers Regiment and rose to General of the Cavalry by July 1883.

In November 1920 Ludwig died after a heart paralysis. He was buried in Munich's Ostfriedhof .

In 1858 Ludwig became the father of a daughter, Marie Louise Mendel (* February 24, 1858, † July 4, 1940), who later became Marie Louise von Larisch-Wallersee, and "that Countess Larisch" mainly because of her knowledge of the Mayerling tragedy went down in the history books.

In 1859 a son Karl Emanuel (born May 9, 1859 - August 1, 1859) was born, but he died at just three months.

After his wife Henriette died in 1891, Ludwig married again a year later. The marriage with the actress Antonie Barth was divorced in 1913.
