Antonio Ambrogio Alciati
Antonio Ambrogio Alciati (born September 5, 1878 in Vercelli , † March 7, 1929 in Milan ) was an Italian portrait painter and fresco artist as well as an art teacher.
After his first studies at the Vercelli Art Institute, he moved to Milan, where he studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera under Vespasiano Bignami , Giuseppe Mentessi and Cesare Tallone and, in 1920, took over the professorship for nude painting as Tallone's successor.
He established himself primarily as a portraitist in Milan. His works show influences from Tranquillo Cremona and Giovanni Boldini .
He was also the author of frescoes in the Pirotta Villa in Brunate (Como) and in some Lombard churches.
On September 1, 1914, he became a member of Freemasonry at the Loggia Galileo Ferraris of Vercelli, which belonged to the Grande Oriente d'Italia , and became its master on November 21, 1922.
His students at the Milan Academy included a. a. Christoforo de Amicis , Contardo Barbieri , Alfredo Beltrame , Oreste Bogliardi , Angelo del Bon , Arnaldo Carpanetti , Umberto Lilloni .
