António Manuel Viana Mendonça , called Mendonça , (born October 9, 1982 in Luanda ) is a former Angolan football player. He took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Career

The midfielder , who was primarily used on the right side, began his career in 1999 with Primeiro de Agosto in Angola before moving to Portugal. In ten years in Portugal he spent most of the time at Varzim SC , with whom he made his first promotion to the first division in 2001 and relegated again after two seasons. In 2007, the first division club Belenenses Lisbon signed him, who loaned him to league rivals CF Estrela Amadora after six months , before going back to Varzim SC in 2008. A year later he returned to his homeland and played for various Angolan first division clubs until his retirement in 2013 .

Mendonça made his debut for the Angolan national team at the age of 16 and completed the last of his more than 40 international matches in 2009. When Angola took part in a soccer World Cup in 2006, he was used in all three group matches. Angola was eliminated after the preliminary round. In 2008 he reached the quarter-finals for the first time with Angola at the African Cup .
